weak spark

I made a spark tester and found that over a 7/16 gap the spark seems weak. It is sort of a weak orange spark. I installed 4 new coils this season...What would be some possible causes. Thanks for the help. Oh, Battery is nice and strong. Connections all clean.

Um, 7/16 is almost half an inch. What kind of spark were you expecting to jump 1/2 inch?

Mark, My motors would not jump the 7/16 as stated in the manual.<br /><br />I pulled the flywheel and found rust/corrosion covering the ends of the stator coils (at the multiple layers of metal) where the magnet induces voltage. I used 220 grit sandpaper to clean/remove the crud, put the flywheel back on and when checked had plenty of blue fire across the 7/16 gap.<br /><br />Good luck with yours.
