i have a 1980 16 foot sylvan . beam 6 foot, package weight 1050 lbs ,it has ribs along the bottom of the hull ,made of rivieted allumiun, 30 degree bow rise. it has a 1987 mariner inline 4 45 hp(maybe it is 40 at the shaft ) , with a 2:1 gear ratio . it is used in fresh water and trailer when not used.

when i use a 14" prop it is way out of the wot range 6000+ @20mph. the range is 5000-5500 from the manufacter . when i use a 15" prop the rpm is 5200 @20 mph (gps) this does not fall in the normal (prop curve )

the paint is staring to oxidies , the finish has a sandpaper FEEL . would waxing the boat have an positive effect ? if so what kind? :( tom@stereolimited.com

Re: waxing a boat?

A favorite subject :) If you do a search there are tons of pro's and con's.

I have used 3M hull and fiberglass cleaner and restorer which contains wax with great results. I do admit that an orbital buffer will save you days of pain and work but it can be done by hand. It does a great job of cutting through the oxidation. There are allot of products out there but I have had my luck with the 3M.

You might find it at a parts store if not it is available on line.

Bob

I use a product called "Liquid Luster" it is great. Takes the oxidation off and gives a deep shine. It is also very easy to apply and buff. I did the bottom of my boat and added 6 mph. Do a search for it. You can get it off the net.

Craig
