just dropped my '05 yamaha fx cruiser HO waverunner in the lake to start the season. no low range power out of the hole. feels like it is slipping on the water until about 17 mph then feels like it catches and take off. will still top out at 52 mph as usual. any ideas? i looked up at the impeller and it looks good from the outside. pwc did the same thing at the end of last season but i winterized it and put it away. i didn't know the extent though as someone else rode it to the boat ramp and told me about it. any help is greatly appreciated.

Re: waverunner no low range power

it is cavitating,, there is either some item stuck in between the impeller blades that you will need to find or the wear ring has corrosion under it and is going bad, if it is used in salt water,, the corrosion builds between the stainless liner and the aluminum pump housing,, however if it did this all of a sudden it would be a good bet that you have an object stuck in the impeller

Re: waverunner no low range power

thanks for the info. i will double check the impellar but i did not see anything in there earlier. the boat has never been in salt water. i have owned it since it was new and it has only been in my lake but it does sit in the water for 6 months straight.

pulled ski out of water. impellar looks completely fine. part directly behind impellar to the rear (parts diagram called it the impellar duct) looks chewed up some. it has 6 "wings" that resemble a starfish. the edge of each wing that is closest to the impellar appears corroded. could this be causing the cavitation problem? any help is greatly appreciated. ski is actually a 2004 not 2005. thanks.

Re: waverunner no low range power

possibly but your impeller may be bad also see if the edges look darker than the rest of it and look for contact points in the liner ,, you can do the impeller and wear ring section for a couple hundred bucks using www.sbtontheweb.com
