check for spark problems before breaking into the carbs.
fairly common for yamahas to have broken electrode inside the plug wires - especially at the caps. At idle & low speed, it will act fine - above 1/2 throttle, it acts "boggy"
remove plug boots and look at the electrode. trim wires back about 1/4" until good electrode is present, then re-install and try running it.
