Hello; Mike here. I am replacing the starter on my 1996 waveraider 1100. I removed the old starter no problem, but cannot get the new starter installed. I cleaned the hole in the engine, and oiled it, and I also oiled the O ring on the starter. The O ring is in the hole, but I can't get the starter to go in all the way. It is still sticking out about 3/8ths of an inch. It is basically the same amount as the amount that the starter gear engages with the bendix gear. I am assumming that the starter gear is hitting the bendix gear, and not engageing and that is what is preventing it from going in fully. I have pulled the starter out many times, and re-installed it, but cannot get it to mesh. I even greased the starter gear to help, but so far no luck. Is there any special trick to this? Has anybody else had any problems when installing a starter on the ski? Is there something that I am missing? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks. Mike.
