Just got back from 5 days on Watts Bar Lake, just west of Knoxville. I live in NW Ohio and it was about a 7-hour trip each way. One word....WOW!!!! I've been to Cumberland and this place is much, much, much nicer. No houseboat rentals on the lake so it's not absurdly crowded.....actually on Wednesday and Thursday we probably didn't see 20 other boats. We stayed at a very, very nice house in a cove, right across from a marina with gas and a pretty cool little "local bar" in it, which we made good use of a couple nights. The lake was 91 degrees. Even out in the main lake, you could run for 10 minutes without passing another boat. Check out the house....it's at www.tlcvacations.com scroll down to Lakeside Lodge. If you're looking for a great week or even weekend trip, I'd recommend it.

That sure looks like a really nice place to stay and boat. In about 2 years the little one will be three and we will proably try that place for sure.

My mom lives on the water there in Spring City, complete with a dock and a boat lift and no boat lol

It's a gorgeous lake for sure!

Watts Bar is on the river also. Got up early on our second day their and hopped on the jet ski...heading out to the main lake. My wife works for Marathon Oil Co and is a supervisor in their marine department. Just outside our cove comes a Marathon tug pushing an ashpalt barge. Ran back to the dock and grabbed my camera. Really strange to have happened out onto the water the minute one of her boats was passing by as they are very rarely on that part of the river....5 minutes earlier or later and I wouldn't have seen it.

:D
Glad you liked it. That's my home lake, with the nearest boat ramp 2 miles from my house. There are nesting pairs of bald eagles, great fishing, and as you say, really not at all crowded.

Just wish the water was a little cooler for swimming...

It was 91 degrees in the cove where we were...not sure of the name, but it's where Blue Springs Marina is....and 89 in the main lake. Us "northerners" will never complain about warm water....lol

Thank you for sharing your time on Watts Bar Lake and how wonderful it is. As the tourism manager for the county (Roane) I certainly would agree we have one of the nicest lakes around, not to mention it is 39,000 acres - making it one of the largest in the southeast area. Plenty of room for water recreation and some of the best bass fishing around (just ask my husband).

I camp nearly every weekend and boat on Watts Bar Lake so I know exactly how special our lake is. For more information about Watts Bar Lake and Roane County be sure and visit the Visitor's Bureau website at http://www.roanetourism.com.

Hope to see you back real soon.

Pam,

Most likely you will. My son's baseball team was down there for a tournament. We had the entire team out to the house we were at a couple of the days. We decided before we left that that tournament (Battle in the South in Rockwood and Oak Ridge) will be on our schedule again for next season. My family and another couple rented the house, while the rest stayed in hotels closer to Knoxville. The plan is for everyone to rent houses next year and everyone will stay at the lake.
