Hello,

I was just wondering if it is better to leave my engine in neutral or shut off when changing water skiers? (besides the obvious of saving gas, safety, less wear on the starter, etc) My question is more about performance, if the engine has been off for a while it seems to need a minute to get warmed up so it doesn't stall on take off. (not a major problem but it has happened occasionaly unless I rev it up in neutral after restarting)

Thank you.

SHUT IT OFF, it is a safety concern! It only takes one bad move bumping the control box or an engine malfunction to severely injure someone. If your motor has trouble restarting after a few minutes of waterski change the problem is not a cold engine. You need to rebuild carbs and do a link and sync.

It usually starts right back up no problem, just that the engine needs a little time to warm up again. If I turn it on and then try to pull right away it tends to hesitate or potentially stall. Doesn't happen when the engine has been running for a while. Is this normal for a Merc inline 6?

no it's not normal. rebuild carbs, fuel pump and do a link and sync. IF the problem persists, diagnose ignition. I have new ignition and rebuild fuel system in my inline 6. It doesnt matter if it's the first start of the season, when i press the throttle, it GOES.

Lol... Power of Tower

See how easy mistakes are made? Don't take chances. Shut it off.
