waterpump question

i just dropped my lower unit to change the impeller. can i get away with just the impeller and gaskets? or does the housing need to be replaced. also there is a little sleeve that goes around the water tube and is cracked. its about three inches long and plastic . does that need relaced.this goes on a 1985 mariner 150 magnum.thanks for any comments.

Check the housing where the impeller rides. If it is grooved or has apparant excessive wear, then replacing it would be a decent idea. If you get an impeller kit, it should have that plastic sleeve in it along with the gaskets. The sleeve is a guide for the waterpump tube that goes up to the engine, so it isn't the end of the world if it is cracked, but it would be optimal for it not to be cracked.
