Waterpump on 2004 Merc.90 hp

Would like to change the waterpump on my 90hp Merc.Should I leave the unit in netural or shift to forward? Should be a fairly easy job I would think.

From the manual:

Lower Unit Removal:

1. Remove (and isolate) spark plug leads from
spark plugs.
2. Shift engine into forward gear.
3. Tilt engine to full “Up” position.
4. Remove fasteners.
5. Remove locknut and washer.
6. Remove gear housing.

Installation:

Depends on whether you have Power Trim or not. What is the s/n of your engine? If you PM me with an email address, I will forward a copy of the manual to you.
