water under storage compartment

I have a 2007 reinell 197LS with a floor storage compartment between the driver and passenger seat. It seems to get water logged every time I take it out, though when I start the bilge NOTHING comes out. The water stays in. I looked in the engine compartment and found no water at all, so I'm not sure how the water gets in there or how it gets out. Any ideas?
Thank you!

It may be storm or splash water, but it should drain out. Do you trailer the boat, if so... pull the plug the next time you take it out of the water and stop on the ramp if no one else is waiting to see if it drains. If it doesn't drain then your bilge might be blocked with trash.

Where is the bilge pump? Is the water in the same space as the bilge pump? If so the discharge hose is most likely plugged - - disconnect from the pump and clear the hose.

Sounds like the ski storage, it should have a drain hole, to drain into the bilge. You will have to look next time out and see where the water is coming in from. Is it wet under the dash, on the floor? If it is, it could be the speed gage hose. I have seen boats, that the drain hole was never put in from the factory though, or it was put in and glassed over.

Re: water under storage compartment

Folks,
Thank you for your replies. I'm pretty certain the bilge works adequately... I found that out when I had to pump water out in a hurry because I had forgotten to put in the plug and noticed water coming in! Once I turned the bilge on it pumped water out... and pretty fast! Yes, the compartment I was talking about was the ski storage. It is lined with carpeting so I'm not sure if there is a drain to it. I will take it to the shop today and hopefully they will have answers too... I'm telling you, I've taken this boat to the shop for repairs more times than I've taken it to the lake!

Is this a new boat under warranty?

Unfortunately the boat is NOT under any warranty. I bought it as is from the dealer. They have been good about covering the cost on most items I've brought to their attention. The very first time I took the boat out I noticed an oil leak and a noxious smell, in addition to water in the ski storage... They said they couldn't find the oil leak so I made no further issue out of it. Now I'm very worried! I took pictures so hopefully they will continue to work with me.

Re: water under storage compartment

this may be a simple problem......or it might not be.

there is a tube that goes from the ski locker....under the gas tank and straight to the bilge. (or depending on the manufacturer) just a hole for water to escape the ski locker and get to the bilge. if this area is plugged....simple rain water and water off peoples life jackets will tend to collect in the ski locker.

the cure for this ....is easy.....just unplug the hole....(as mentioned above....it may have been glassed over from the manufacturer) in that case you will have to re drill the hole.

carpet in ski lockers looks good and serves as a sound deadening device ....but does have its drawbacks....you might have to pull the carpet up....clear the channel and then lay the carpet down again.....but this time make sure the hole is clear.

there is a slight possibility that the water is leaching form the flotation foam.....this is not good...but lets try the easy stuff before we go looking for the tuff stuff !
