I have the old style temp sensor, actually it’s just a hollow tubing, but my engine I don’t believe has a sender unit. Anyways I bought a new tachometer for my pontoon, it has a water temp on it, what sender would I need for my engine? On the diagram for the tach it shows a wire and a ground wire going to the sender from the tach. Can I get help tracking down the part number I need for my motor? I have included photos of my engine and the gauge.

I myself would worry about it as this motor doesnt have a t-stat so sender will always show cold..

I can tell from the back of the gauge you did not buy a marine gauge. looks like an amazon chinese special as none of the wires are ABYC compliant

is the tach even rated for outboards?

The original was not a water temperature sensor if it was fed with a tube. That would be a "water pressure" gauge. If the new water temperature gauge scale begins at 160 degrees or so the needle will never move unless of course the engine actually does overheat.

The gauge says it can be used on anything. So for a water pressure sensor where would that tubing go on my motor? So I can install another gauge

however it cant. you bought a chinesium special. guaranteed it does not have the correct input for 2-stroke outboards and you would have to read the requirements of the resistance range of the temp switch.
