Don't know if this is the same hose as mark-od is talking about. I've got a pre-alpha Mercruiser 120, SN 2361794 and the engine is SN 2420015, 4cyl 153 Chevy.

The water shutter and it's mounting bracket found there way to the lower unit and need to be replaced. The exhaust elbow is two-piece with the water shutter and bracket mounted where they join together.

Question: Can I do this WITHOUT removing the sterndrive and/or engine. BTW, I am hopeful this is where some water is finding it's way into the bilge.

Thanks for your opinions and/or tricks to make it happen.

swabbie

Re: Water shutter in exhaust elbow

If you are referring to the shutter in the exhaust, I just did this job on my 888 V8 Mercruiser., Unles your setup is radically different, the engine had to come out of my boat to get to the exhaust Y pipe as the shutter is in the base of the pipe. No big deal as the engine was coming out for a rebuild and I just decided to check the shutters. I have never looked at any others, but I bet your situation is similar. Someone else will be along shortly that has experience with your engine.
