Hello,
I have purchased a Rayco water separator/fuel filter for my '94 Yamaha 90hp. Question: should the filter be installed between the primer bulb and the motor or before the primer bulb - or does it even matter. I've heard different opinions, but would really appreciate yours. This site is the best.

Thanks

Re: Water separator/fuel filter

I've wondered that myself. My boat came with one installed between the fuel bulb and the tank. But I was wondering, it is sometimes hard to prime the bulb if I drain the filter. If it was installed on the engine side of the bulb, the bulb would prime easier, and it is easier to push gas into the filter with the fuel bulb than it is to suck it into the filter with the fuel bulb. I don't think the fuel pump on the engine would know the difference.

On my 2003 yamaha 90hp the water seperator is installed before the primer bulb and yes when you change the filter you must prime or fill the filter with gas . :) :)

Mine is installed between the tank and the bulb. Even though it is hard to prime it using the bulb, Yamahas have the fuel filter under the cowling and that is usually enough to get the motor fired and then the fuel pump will take care of getting the filter filled.

At least that has been the experience with my boat.
