I have a 2001 mercury 25 hp long shaft motor ..I wasnt satisfied with the amount of water coming out of the telltell so I decided to change the water pump .. this went off without a hitch and every thing went back together fine .. then I put the water muffs on and cranked the motor ..and there was a definate improvement in the amount of water coming out of the telltell.. but then I noticed that water was overflowing out of the midsection around the bottom transom swivle mount ..this is cold water even when the water coming out of the telltell is very warm ..which leads me to think it is not coming from up above ..the water dont seam to be under pressure .. this is the first time I have run it on a hose pipe ..so I dont know if this is normal or not ..I actually took the foot back down and looked again at the water tube seal on the water pump ..then I took the water tube out of the water pump seal and put it up in the power heat water tube seal first ..it felt good and stayed up in the seal I put it back together and it is still the same..can anyone tell me if I have a problem and what it might be if I do

well I took it to the lake and ran it .. after not being able to get any advice .. the engine does not get hot but the mid section does ..so That made me think exaust was comming out in the mid section water still comes out with it idling in the lake ..so i put my finger over the exhaust port on the back of the mid section and that caused bubbles to come out of the mid section .... I dropped the foot again and there is no boot or gasket where the exhaust tube joins the foot so I figured it has to be leaking there I coated the mating surfaces with weather strip gasket adhesive ..now im letting it dry before I try it again ..

Going to guess that you didn't get your water pipe from the top of the water pump seated properly in the bottom of the block and you are loosing water that should be going into the engine. Since you are getting some cooling you apparently you have it in the hole, assume the block is the problem as it's hard to see up there.

Problems could either be a seal is missing from the upper end, or damaged, or the pipe is bent and doesn't go all the way up into the slot in the bottom of the block. As I recall the tube isn't perfectly straight when properly installed, but not far from it. Cold water means that it is water that didn't get to the engine block that should have.
