Hi Guy's, would it hurt anything to add a can of water remover to your gas tank once in a while. Do not know if it would hurt a 2 stroke or not. Thanks

Re: Water remover

I am suspicious of any fuel additives not specific to 2 stroke outboards, Bob.

I think a much better way to keep water out of your fuel is a water seperating filter.

Good luck. :)

I agree -- would stay away -- alcohol burns very hot which could affect the oil contacting the cylinder walls- Run some Seafoam thru there instead -- it says on the bottle it displaces moisture- and it will decarbonize your motor at the same time. Plus it's definitly safe for your motor!

Re: Water remover

I don't use alcohol because I have a water separating filter. Editorial comment: I don't know why anyone would have a built in tank and not have a water separating filter. It is/should be a basic part of the fuel system.

But, I know a lot of people who use "heet" type stuff in their two stroke outboards. It has been reccommended to me, if I were to use Heet, to use the "Iso Heet" which comes in a red, rather than yellow, container. FWIW.

Re: Water remover

ISO Heet has the same alcohol used in gas at the pumps. If you read the two cans it will probably tell you not to use the HEET in outboard motors.

Thanks - I never use the stuff, but thought I'd pass on what I'd heard. I guess that wasn't a good idea!

Re: Water remover

ISO-Heet has isopropyl alcohol in it, regular Heet has methanol in it. Both will displace moisture. If you HAD to use on or the other, the Iso is better because it will take less of the chemical to displace moisture than the methanol, but both burn much hotter than gasoline, so I would not use either unless I had no choice. I aggree with D. that Sea Foam is your best bet in a 2 stroke or a smaller 4 stroke. In the larger 4 strokes, Heet is OK and ISO is better because you add much less (1 pint to 20+ gallons as opposed to 1 pint to 10 gallons for Methanol /Regular Heet).
