Water pump volume

OK, I noticed yesterday that at WOT the volume of water leaving the "pee holes" is quite low. At idle the water has some pressure behind it, at WOT the water just kind of arcs out of them. I touched the head area in a few spots with my hand and it was not very hot, I could have left my hand on it for a long time. My warning buzzer is not working at the moment, i need to replace it.

Is this normal, or should there be more water leaving those pee holes at WOT than idle?

It is an 85hp force.

Thanks

Re: Water pump volume

My 125 started the same thing your discribeing . The water pump needs replaceing or the impeller does, one of the two. Mine pumped very good at Idle but like you at WOT it wasen't pumping much, the motor overheated until I came down to a slow speed. Its going out ,no way around it ,sorry . My houseing was pitted so bad that any new impeller would be tore up in a short time. I found the whole shooting match for 78.00 two day delivery ,Impeller, houseing, bolts, lock washers, everything.

The thing that gets me is I paid a shop to replace it all last season, they only put in an impeller but charged me for it all. I will do all my motor work from now on. I guess thats what I get for being lazy.

baxtr, one question . If it pumps a large amount of water at slow speeds, why does it not pump more at WOT out of the holes in the leg?

Re: Water pump volume

The 2 holes on the leg are the idle relief holes, they only "spray" water and exhaust at slow speeds, those aren't exactly "pee holes" or "telltales" You can however add a telltale as I did so you always know if your impeller is pushing water.

Read this post on how to do it:

Thank you, I searched and found a post that related specifically to a old chrysler engine that said just what you did. I wanted to make sure it was the same for my force. I just wanted to be sure, I will replace the impeller in the spring as preventative maintenance.

Thanks baxtr

It is a relief valve, it gives the water some place to go when not at WOT. When you are at WOT the water can free flow throughout the engine. I'm sure someone else can explain it better.

Re: Water pump volume

You did fine, I understand it now. Thank you.

I baxtr-ized my force this morning, took all of an hour, 45 mins running for the parts and 15 to get er done. That little plug was a buggger

Mine was a 1/8 NPT to 1/4 I did exactly what y'all did but the hole in the cowling, I used a gromet and pushed the tube out it about 1 inch.

My plug was in a somewhat recessed area unlike what I seen in the pictures. It still went in easy with a deep socket.

FORCE MOTOR HAS BEEN BAXTR-IZED:D

baxtr, you should start sellin the baxtr-ized pee hole kits.
