I just put my boat all back together after changing the impeller, my question is the water guide on the lower unit next to the shaft and impeller casing does water come out of there and surround the shaft and if so does that water leak out behind the lower unit?

Nope,... The impeller pump is connected to the water tube, which is connected to the water hose, which runs through to the T-stat housing...

Water should not come out from around that tube when running, problem is, there is no way for you to see it when it's running. There is also water from the exhaust that goes past that area, and also comes out of the idle relief ports in the transom shield. The idle relief ports are 2 round ports about 1" in diameter.

RE: plastic hose next to the shaft on the water pump casing:

Ok when i took the lower unit off i noticed there was nothing really connecing the top hose to the plastic guide, I also noticed in the water pump kit there was two gasket that go in between the plactic guide but nothing on the top side of that? I don't understand how that works?

thanks for your help im just trying to get a better idea how this works.

I could probably spend some time and make some pictures from the manual to explain it, but SEI did a lot better job in their instructions for putting the two halves together. Go to the link below, and pay particular attention to steps 2.1, 2.2, and 2.3.
They show the white guide tube, the black coupler that has the 2 orings in it, and the copper tube in the upper that all go together.

OK i just took my boat to the mechanic I bought my parts from. He explained how it worked and he also had me start it up and told me the water that is coming out from behind the lower unit is normal there's a little pin hole there about 3/16s big, he said is was just a extra release spot? can anybody confirm that? I just want to be sure. I plan on taking the boat out tomorrow and don't want any major problems.

Makes it a lot easier when someone is right there and can see what you are seeing doesn't it.
We have to wait for pictures and go by explanations in the form of text only.

Ok so I went out to the lake after I made this post, I had the boat running for about 45minutes the water was 63 degrees my guage was reading 120degrees and my motor was cold to the touch. The first mechanic I took it to told me it was normal for it to leak there he even had me start the boat up. The second mechanic said hes never noticed water come from that hole but he also said hes never paid attention.

There's alota water splashin' around there....

It appears you've circled the Shift Shaft...
Other than splashin',.. It ain't a typical Leaky kinda thing...

Btw,... can't say's I've ever looked down in there either, Runnin' anyways...

I think by saying "circled the shift shaft" he means that you drew a circle around the shift shaft in you picture.

LOL yeah thats exactly what I did. haha I was thinking he meant I had the shift shaft in wrong or something. wow I'm loosing it..

On that note. I started the boat put my finger over that hole and it stopped, is this something I should be worried about?

Re: Help Water pump replacement?

All that water is basically coming from the exhaust and pushing out around the shift shaft bushing and the bellhousing. Why, I have no clue, don't even remember seeing that hole on gen II bell housings either. and why it would be connected and open to the exhaust cavity.
Nothing in the manual about it, and I don't have a Gen II bell housing to look at.
