Model # J60TLCRE SN J5987940 (60 Hp Johnson)
I have been to several of the recommended sites to find the year but even on kencooks I am unable to find this model number. I also did a search on this forum but didn't find any previous posts that would help me take the foot off.

I don't have a manual and need to change the water pump. I have unbolted the lower unit but it seems to be hung up when the flanges are opened about 1/2 to 5/8 inches. Do I need to shift to forward or reverse to disengage? It's still in neutral now.

As soon as I find the year I will buy a manual for future repairs.

Thanks anyone, Jay

remove the starter and look under the port side of the bottom carb. remove the 7/16ths headed bolt from the shift block that is facing the port cowl.
good luck and keep posting but buy that manual first

Re: Water Pump Repair

I wish 1994. 84 seems closer to what I thought. Been a good little motor except for having to clean the carbs often. Darn dirt daubers down here are hard to keep out of the engine and even after taking the hood off and cleaning them off I always miss one that is buried.

Thanks for the info on removing the foot, will give it a try in the morning. Is there some trick to getting it back in that long blind hole and is there an adjustment required?

jayboy
