water pump question?...

hello there 1995 mercruiser 305 with a alpha one gen II, after new SEI outdrive installation the drive pump been suckin up exhaust creating some heat issues I already have a new pump kit with gaskets should I use silicone to seal the gaskets or just the gaskes some one told me to use the silicone on the folowing link

this is happening only at high RPM, this is from the warranty department of SEI

Unfortunately it sounds like the water pump is sucking in exhaust at the water pump. That style water pump is hard to get sealed up. Please call the warranty department and they will send you some new gaskets for the water pump.

Also make sure the rubber slinger was on top of the waterpump and covering the opening between the shaft and the housing.
