water pump question(s)

when my 1979 200 hp merc is idling only sprays a little water out of telltale,at higher rpm's it shoots a steady stream,is this normal or should it be a hard stream all the time?Is there an alarm on this model?thanx for any response, I love this place!<br />

Sounds right ta me, fishhunter.When the engine's at idle, the t'stat isn't really opened up. As you increase engine revs, engine warms up and t'stat starts to open and more water out the t-tale.<br /><br />c/6<br /><br />Hooty
