Water pump o-ring

I am replacing a water pump on my 1990 Evinrude 70 hp VRO.
I am reassembling but cannot keep the o-ring on the pump housing in place. Any tips would be greatly appreciated.

Use a very small amount of hardening Permatex to glue it in place ... assemble before fully hardened. Make sure the Permatex doesn't come out of the groove ... you just want enough to hold the O ring in place.

I second the recommendation of wilde1j.

I'm a newbie == first time boat owner, and just replaced the impeller in my 97 Evinrude, 90 HP. I was getting frustrated trying to keep everything in place during re-assembly, and finally grabbed the tube of permatex and used a couple of "dots" here and there to keep things is place. This worked great for me!

Not too, much - just enough to hold things in place. Good Luck!
