Just finished installing the W/P kit.
One part "left over"....or more accurately one NEW
part left over....the impeller key.
I reused the old one and reassembled the whole works before I realised that a new key came with the kit.

On one hand, why would they include a key if you weren't supposed to change it....on the other hand, a flywheel key goes on and on...and on.

Before I put the L/U back on, opinions?

1) Take it all apart again and put in the new key?
....or 2) forget it, and just change the key when I change the pump components next time?

Depends, the reason they supply a new key is because they do wear. I would not call it a critical changeout that justifies you pulling the lower unit back down, but you NEED to do it on the next kit change out.

Also, folks lose them when they take the pump apart for the first time.

Thanks for all the responses.
I'll probably leave sleeping dogs lie, but have all week to decide.
The L/U is still on the workbench at the cottage, so it is not a major job to pop the pump cover and throw in the new key.
