water pump issue

I posted a week ago about putting on a new water pump, and when running in a barrel of water, the motor doesn't pump water. When on a hose, it does but that's due to pressure. Someone told me the impeller key probably fell out but I checked and it's in position. I took the entire pump apart and reinstalled. It still doesn't pump in the barrel. Any ideas of what else it could be?

Re: water pump issue

Are you filling the barrel so that the water level is above the waterpump or just above the intake holes?

Re: water pump issue

are you sure the tube is pushed into the grommet and the fins on the impella facing the right way? if your holding housing in your hand fins should be clockwise. You can also pull the lower end down and try runnimg water back down through from telltale hose to see if there is obstructions

Re: water pump issue

I would trouble shoot this with the lu off spinning the driveshaft with a drill.

The fins of the impeller would simply flip, even if put in backwards and if it pumps with the muffs I dont believe there to be an obstruction, there is something wrong with the pump itself.

Are you getting minimal water output, or simply none at all? A worn impeller housing would minimize water output, but would not cause it to pump not at all, unless severely damaged. Did you replace the entire water pump, or just impeller? If the housing looks good, or is new, and you spin the drive shaft only to find not water exit, I would guess there is something wrong with the impeller install. As I said try this with the lu off.

Also, what are your compression numbers?

I took a light and made sure the tube was pushed up into the grommet. I could feel it secure itself. The fins of the impeller are all pointing clockwise when I look at them in the casing. It is the proper pump.

OK, the fins are slanted and pointing to the left if I hold it in my hand. Is this correct?

I'm not familiar with your pump, but if it has an air bleed, make sure that it is open.
