I have a 1971 50HP evinrude model# 50173s and serial# 07812. I was told that there was an opening towards the top of the engine to let me visually see that the water pump was working properly. The spot that I was told to look in has a hole that goes to the outside of the engine housing but it appears to be just a bolt hole. The engine runs fine but there is no indication to visually see water being pumped through the engine. I have ran the engine for hours and it remains cool to the touch. Should this bolt be hollow or does my engine not have this indicator?
