Water pump impeller

I know this is a stupid question but please bear with me. When you install a water pump impeller, what happens if you turn the rubber impeller fins the wrong way? Will they right themself? The reason I am asking is I put a new water pump kit on my 1990 Evinrude 200 while i was preparing to put the L/u back on my son turned the driveshaft on the L/U counterclockwise opposite the standard rotation. It is possible some/all of the pump fins reversed their direction, and if so will they reverse themself back to the right direction or do I need to remove the pump and make sure all the fins are turned the right way?

If he just turned it by hand i doubt it hurt anything. Did you use a little oil or grease on the impeller when you installed it? I always do that so the first start up is nice and slick..

You did lube the impeller before install?? If you did I would say you have nothing to worry about. My impeller was tight when I put it on this spring. I dont see how it could reverse itself if lubed.

It was lubed when installed but it was also installed about 1 month ago. just dont want to remove everything again because I did use the OMC sealant on the housing o-ring and it could turn out to be a sticky mess dis then reassembling

You might have two problems. The first being that one or more vanes did indeed reverse. Although a vane may be folded the wrong way, they tend to right themselves when the engine is run. The down side, is that I've seen impellers with as many as half the vanes folded the wrong way. There is only one way to make sure things are ok and you know what that is. How much of a risk taker are you.
