Changing the impeller in my 1986 Yamaha 50ELJ and the impeller is very difficult to get down the drives haft. The manual states that it should move smoothly up and down the driveshaft, but the one I removed and the new one was a bear to get off and the new one is a bear to get down the shaft. It's the correct one for my motor, and I've used light sandpaper to clean the shaft, which didn't seem to have any buildup on it, and it still won't go down easily. Is there a trick, or something I could put on the shaft to help it slide more easily? I don't want it to rub the cup or the plate below it and cause premature wear, or ruin it.

Are you sure it wasn't counterfeit Jungle parts. Even if you go to the Jungle site and type in an OEM part# it will give you a counterfeit part. Most people don't realize they're not buying (OEM) "original equipment" they assume b/c they punched in the part# that it's the same. I deal with this crap and failures at least twice a day. So annoying. Maybe double check?

Work on the I.D. Of the new impeller with some Emory cloth type sandpaper to relieve the interference fit….then slide it on….
