Water pump housing melt down

'62 Merc 500 KH - Is there any other reason other than it not getting water, that the pump housing should be melting down?

Question, Did water come out of the pee hole before the pump housing melted? Because if its melting while water is passing through, then you may want to look in another direction, or keep replacing the pump housing...
