ASk your dealer on some TSBs regarding that engine. There are seals and 0-rings for that motor that have failed and allowed water into the gearcase. They are located in the area that is exposed when you change the impeller. Dont know what years are affected but mine (2000) is one of them. There are other TSBs for the same years as well.
