The pump is on the top of the lower unit when its removed. The impeller and housing slides onto the drive shaft that powers the prop from the powerhead. If you plan on doing repairs you should get a service manual to guide you, it will also give you some idea as to weather or not a repair is within your ability. Have Fun
Good advice so far - especially on getting a manual. Once that is in hand the job is not complicated for the average driveway wrench unless you break some bolts getting it apart. Basically you drop the lower unit, replace the pump and reassemble.
