I run a 1990 johnson gt 150. I have noticed here lately my water pressure is dropping once I trim the motor past halfway. It will drop from 20 to maybe 12-14. About a month back the tell-tale(?) came apart at a fitting do to a restriction, I believe I have that problem remedied. But now I seem to be loosing pressure. I did raise the jackplate this spring to get a little more top end speed but I just started noticing the drop in pressure lately. Any help is appreciated.

willi,

You may still have a restiction, or it (restriction) has moved.

Take the line off completely and blow through it. Also, blow compressed air into the block fitting.

When was the last time you serviced the impeller?
These can go away on you in a minute.

Re: Water pressure

I have had the boat for about 5 years and I have never serviced the impeller. I will try and blow everything out next week.

Re: Water pressure

Service the impeller NOW, before you take the boat out again, or you may be very sorry. The impeller may be deteriorated, with broken pieces of rubber in your cooling system. Put in a new impeller, then blow everything out. You lose your cooling, you lose your motor. Ain't no fun at all.

Re: Water pressure

yes change that impeller NOW> these are symptoms that you should notice. At idle that impeller is working fine. but when you rev that motor up and that bad impeller spins faster. it wont pump water as well as it did ....and BOOM, you know what will happen. that engine will get hot. And you konw that block is aluminum. it will not take the heat well. Oh, I can go on and on. go out and get a 30 dollar impeller and change it and save yourself from posting a post about how to fix a blown engine.

good luck. dont make the same mistake as me. heheheheh.

good luck,
barbq.

Re: Water pressure

if you have never changed your themostats you may want to change them when you change the impeller.
they are only about $30 for both and pretty easy to change.not that it has anything to do with your problem, just a good idea
