I have a 1994 150hp Johnson FastStike and was wondering what my water pressure readings should be at different RPM's. I have the dash mounted pressure gage, but no one has ever told me what readings I should expect at different RPM's.

Thanks

Re: Water Pressure Guage Reading

On my 93 6V6 I have about 3-4 at idle, 15-16 at about 2000 and about 25 at wot. But its a Faria gauge (was in the boat when I got it) so I dont know how accurate it is but the motor is fine.

Re: Water Pressure Guage Reading

Dhadley, just had my boat out after the new water pump kit installation and paid more attention to my water pressure gage. I was getting right around 10 at fast idle and then it dropped down to about 3-5. I got almost the identical readings you posted at the same rpm's. The only thing I noticed about mine was after sitting fishing for awhile, when I started the motor, I had no pressure at all for about 15-20 seconds and then the pressure came up. The pee stream was also weak during that short time and then was very strong. Thanks for the info. Sounds like our gages are either accurate, or equally inaccurate.

Re: Water Pressure Guage Reading

Ron, thats normal. It takes about that long for the pump to fill the block and start making pressure in the water passages.

Kenny, yours should be close to that with the standard pump. Perhaps a little less on the top, 20+ or so. Years ago on a crossflow they said to increse the pressure reading to put a restrictor in the overboard line after the T. All well and good but it didnt increase the pressure in the block, just on the gauge.

Now, having said that I use the high pressure pump in all my motors.
