posted previously about my alarm going off when idle, is putting a water pressure gauge on this motor a good idea, not sure how accurate they are and is it a lot of work to install one? thanks

Not an OB guy but I do believe the water pressure gauge is a good one. Have ordered one my self to install for next season

Would not leave the dock w/o one. I know of a cooling problem long before I get an over temp alarm

Easy to install. Run tubing from outlet on block to back of gauge.

You don’t need accuracy, you want precision.....very useful in determining the need to change the water pump.

not that they can not help, but if you look at the gauge all of the time before the alarm sets off, they may help in some situations

A water pressure gauge does not tell you the engine is overheating. It tells you the water pump is working. Granted, a malfunctioning water pump can cause overheating due to lack of cooling water but an engine can still overheat with a perfectly functioning water pump. Clogged water passages and stuck thermostats are prime causes of overheating. The key here is to install the gauge and at the same time install a new water pump (impeller or entire kit). Now record idle and WOT water pressure numbers. A reduction in these numbers over time provides the info you need to determine if water pump service is required. Add a water TEMPERATURE gauge to complete the protection package. But neither gauge is worth anything unless you look at them -- frequently.
