Don't go sealing things up. Every opening on the drive has a reason, even if you don't know what that reason is.

What about where the drive mounts to the boat or passes thru to the engine compartment? Can I seal around that perimeter?

Trying to stop the leak of water coming into the engine compartment. I can see it at the back of the compartment coming from up above somewhere.

OK, now we are getting somewhere. Sealing the drive will NOT cure that.
First thing you have to do is ID exactly where it's coming in. We can tell you how to fix it, once you know exactly where the leak is coming from.. A picture usually beats a 1000 words.

Re: Water pick up

With the engine cover off you can see it trickle down the back of the inside of the engine compartment. This happens when the boat is anchored and not running. The water trickles along the back under where the drive passes thru the boat. I had the bellows changed two years ago and I sealed the sides of the drive where it passes thru to the engine compartment but I was hesitant to seal it up at the bottom where there appears to be somekind of gap.
