I'm getting 1/2"-1" of water standing on the floor as far forward as the console in my center console boat apparently coming from transom/bilge hatch area after a few minutes at stop. I suspect the two drain exits at each end of the transom. These have rubber flaps which are supposed to keep water from re-entering. Could these flaps be malfunctioning. The hull drain plug is tight and secure and I can't find any cracks or hardware that could cause this problem.

swg - Tell us a bit about your boat. Innerliner? Access to drain plug from inside? Foam filled below deck?

Re: water on floor..can't determine source

Thanks for your replies. My Scupper drain holes do lay submerged under water a couple of inches at rest. My boat is a recently purchased Sprint Promaster 185(1999). It has web textured decking with carpeted sides and casting decks on both ends. I have a small hatch to access the bilge. I can't really see the drain plug(center) from the inside. The configuration of the rear deck makes it almost impossible to get to the two side scupper drain holes from the inside. I'm wondering if there is a better quality drain flap available or if I should just try to plug these from the inside until I really need them,(rain, cleaning, etc). Or if this a common problem, maybe I shouldn't worry about it. I know a certain amount of water always finds its way in most boats. Any ideas would be appreciated. Thanks.

Yea it is false advertising on kenners part the brouchure says self bailing deck. the deck is below the water line and will never drain. I put ping pong balls and all. Even if you put in plugs then when you run live well and it sloshes around you get water that has no where to go. If it rains there is nowhere for it to go.Have talked to five other nuts who think it is ok to leave the plugs in. One drilled holes in the deck to allow the water to drain to bilge area. other than that it is a fine riding boat. But i am not going to wade fish inside of my boat. You are not alone.Get a lawyer after three to six months you may get your money back. i did

Rubber boots for your feet
I had a marine speacialist and an engineer look at my kenner it was defect design brand new boat they both agreeded that it was defect it design
if deck sits lowwer than the water line it won't work. Maybe yours not the same but mine was and several others who have kenners also.

#1, any boat worth it's weight in grass clippings, drains the livewells overboard, not into the bottom of the boat, and I'm also surprized that not one response was to check your bottom motor mount bolts. I kept getting water in mine and couldn't figure where it was coming from, untill I happened to look down at bottom mount bolts-while I was on the water, and with a flashlight I could see a slow drip, drip, drip. I pulled the nuts and large area washers off and sealed against the transom, and also between the nuts and washers. Boat is dry, and stays dry now.
The scupper drains below the water surface is just bad design. If they would ask the people on this forum what to do, they would have a much better boat, I think :p
