water not spitting out

I have a 1973 or 1974 evinrude 65 horse, and it runs fine and runs cool but there is no water spitting out of the motor when running. Its been like this since i baught the boat and the guy before me said the same. should i be concerned?

I would try to see if the outlet is clogged. I think on those motors the two holes on the back of the leg should have water "spitting" out of them. I'm not sure though, but you'll get a better response in the Evinrude/Johnson Outboard forum ;) . Good Luck!!<br /><br />James

The water flow from the 2 holes on the mid-section flow, and stop in relation to the thermostats working.....They are not a tell-tail.

i hve a 70 hp. 1974 new waterpump and it onley flows water out the back when the motor is at above a fast idle while emerged in water and not a hose but never runs hot. papasage

waterdog - My advice for anyone buying a used motor is to replace the water pump, thermostat, spark plugs and gear oil as a minimum.
