My Robalo 2660 has water in the fish boxes and live well that is not draining. There is no water in the bilge area. I thought the water wasn't draining while at the dock because the mascerator pump failed. I found out that it may not have a mascerator pump. It's very puzzling now because the boat is in dry dock, winterized  but the boxes and live well are still full. Shouldn't the boxes etc. have drained when pulled from the water?

Re: Water not draining!!

The boxes in my 23' Wellcraft do not drain by themselves. I have pumps to do that.

A common problem whether you have pumps or not is wasp nests which clog the drain hoses. I have to go after mine every couple of months.

SoLittle:

Thanks. How do you go after them? Do you use a snake?

First you need to trace all your hoses so you know which ones go where. To purge you need to be careful of puncturing the hose if you use a coat hanger or other sharp type snake thing. Sometimes a flush with the hose will do it or take it to someplace where you can blow through the lines with high pressure air.

I'd go with the compressed air. It has worked for me in the past.

Ratfish, SoLittle:

Thanks guys. I took a plunger to it. One plunge in the live well and it all poured into the bilge then out the back  . I guess this means my mascerator is disconnected or removed. Should I get a new mascerator or leave it alone?

SoLittle: I have a 1999 Wellcraft 230 Fisherman and the fishboxes fill up whenever it rains or after a washdown. My hoses run from the back of each fishbox down to the bilge area and connect together on each leg of a "T". The other leg runs up to where I can't see. It's not pumping and it's tripping the breaker.

Where is the fishbox pump on your boat?

Re: Water not draining!!

wadefisher - First a big welcome & come back often. Now for drain boxes - -

I suspect that your 1999 23' Fisherman is layed out a bit differently than mine as mine is a 1988. I have one large fishbox in the floor running just forward of the seat in front of the center console to the bow. It has a seperate pump with a through hull drain (above the water line) with a on/off switch on the console. The other box is actually a live well the is in the back just forward of an access hatch to the inside of the transom. The live well has two pumps - one is a recirculation pump - the other is a drain pump to another through hull drain - switch also on the console. I also have a bilge pump with a through hull drain. So - - three pumps to pump water out.

I still have to check for obstructions once in a while per the original posts.

By the way I have had this rig for over ten years and have been very happy with it. I did have to have the transom redone about three years ago and fault the idiots who rigged the motors without enough sealant - not Wellcraft.

Kahuna, I just bought a preowned Robalo 1920cc and it holds water in the front compartment right in front of the padded seat. I didn't get a good look at it but the previous owner said that it was from rain water and he has to pump it out by hand? Crazy, I hope its like your saying and just a plugged drain somewhere.
