I have a 1996 bravo II 7.4 liter. I checked the trim/tilt fluid today (1st time since owning it last year) the fluid is milky and looks exactly like regular mustard mixed with water. The trim tilt works fine and the lower unit does not bleed down when sitting or under power

How could water get into this If I dont have a hydraulic leak. At the end of last year I replaced the manifolds and then washed the bilge down, could enough water have gotten in through the vent hole on the vent cap?

How do I fix this or bleed it out before refill? Could I just suck the resivor dry, refill it,run it repeating this process untill clear and clean?

Thanks Steve

It can suck in water from the rams BUT mine has done it from the cap vent during a week of heavy rain combined with boat use

The orginal install of my pump allowed rain water to drip dirrectly on to the cap:eek:

You can suck out the dirty oil and change it OR remove the lines from the rams and pump out the oil and keep replaceing it until clean

The system selfs bleeds when it is moved up and down IF it keeps getting dirty you will have to look at the rams

If it is leaking in around the cap, do something to prevent it. Put a shield over it or something.
If it is leaking in past the seals on the rams themselves, you have to buy the kit to rebuild the ram seals. Tha involves remove the ram end plates and some other stuff. I am not exactly sure how, but I am going to find out in a few weeks.
