I am new to this forum but need help!!! I have a 1981 Bayliner Monterey with a volvo penta 5.7 260, I just replaced the engine and took it out for a shakedown and noticed water coming from below the water pump. Was it installed incorrectly or could it be just time to change it? The mechanic also replaced the impeller shouldn't he have noticed the wobble in the pump? Help!!!!

It's not always noticeable when replacing just an impeller, but if the pump was off the engine when he changed the impeller, then yes he should have noticed loose bearings. The wobble may not be from beaings though. If the pump is not on the pulley correctly, only 1 out of the 3 positions that pump can be installed will not wobble. While a pump can wobble, but that doesn't cause a leak in itself. and yes, those pumps do wear out and leak and need replaced. NAPA carries the replacement Jabsco or Johnson pumps. I personally prefer the Jabsco.

Re: Water leaking

Thank you very much!!! So i can buy a marine water pump from napa auto parts? and is this something anyone can change? I have built several race engines for cars but not much on boats. I don't want to mess this up my wife is already going to kill me if i don't get that boat back in the water!!!!
