Water leaking from volvo penta gimble anode?

1998 volvo penta 5.0gl, sx-m outdrive, ser # 4112050517

I had a guy come look at boat and is interested in buying it but he mentioned the water dumping out of the lower from what appears to be the anode on the gimble bearing. Dealer says this is normal (alleviates back pressure from building up when boat isn't moving?) I've only known to do this instead of going through the prop hole. It's hooked up to muffs in the yard and I need a reasonable explanation. thanks

There are 2 ports (about 1" or so in diameter) under there. They are called exhaust idle relief ports. Needed when the boat is at idle as there isn't enought exhaust pressure to push it all out of the outdrive.
It's very normal. Those ports are also found on OMC, Mercruiser, and the older Volvo drives.
