I have a Volvo 3.0gs and I seem to have a leak coming from the top pully. It is the one that both the alternator and the water pump go to. What I need to know is there a seal there that can go out? And how do I go about fixing it. Also I'm just guessing but I have been having a charging problem and a temp problem. Could it be the water dripping on the belts and making them slip? Because it is not all the time it just gos off and on. Any help would be helpful I'm trying to get back on the water tomorrow but don't want to risk messing anything up by not fixing it.

Sounds like the recirculating pump is loosing its seal. Replacement would be the way to go.

Is that something that is very hard to do? I am new to boats but have worked on all my cars but as I am finding out they can be very different sometimes. So there is not an o ring I can change just the pump its self. Also is that something that will cost me a lot?

I changed the recirculating pump on the starboard engine of my boat last weekend . . . Took a couple of hours total. Not hard, basically the same as an automotive engine. You probably want to check the service manual for your engine to see if there are any specific procedures or requirements.

Before, I changed my recirculating pump, I made sure that was the source of the leak.

Ya I think it is that the water comes from the pulley itself. If I leave it alone tell after the weekend should I be fine of could a damage the boat?

Only real problem is that you will spray water all over the inside of the engine compartment, with the potential of rust or damage to electrical parts. Happened to me first season I had my boat, Volvo Penta gave me a replacement pump, which I installed myself. Local dealer had a 4 week back log of work, which is why I did the work myself, it is a very easy job, the pump came with the necessary gaskets.

It isn't coming from the pulley, it's coming from the pump behind it. Hard to say whether you'll be okay or not. The pump is part of your engine's cooling system. Keep an eye on temp.

Yea, you should change it before it decides to crap out . . . usually those things happen at the least convenient time . . . like out in the middle of the bay

Thanks i found one for $99 i will put it in today. I hope this will also be the reason my temp is going up at the same time the volts go down.
