I have a very small drop of water coming from the head gasket on the top side when I run the motor with the muffs, but not when the motor is in the water. could this be caused by the muffs or should I replace the gasket? This is on a 95' Johnson 150 faststrike motor. Any Ideas??

It sounds like you have a weak head gasket there. I would check the torque settings on the head bolts and see if that corrects the problem.

Muffs would not have any effect.

It could be that the engine runs cooler on the muffs and hotter when in actual use . . . So, the little drip of water tends to evaporate.

It sounds like you are at the beginning of a head gasket issue. Check the torque on the head bolts just to be sure.

I will check the torque, but I may just change it out. It's the easy side (if there is such a thing). It did actually get better when the motor warmed up.Thanks for the input.

That mtr has no head gaskets, just O-Rings and silicone seal.

So its probably safe to say the o-rings are ok since I dont have any moisture in the cylinders but the silicone is leaking on the outer edge?

The best thing to do is pull the head and have the surface checked for being warped. At the same time get some new orings and look in your manual for the proper places to apply the silicone or RTV sealeant. The RTV sealer only goes around the water passages in a 1/16 " bead on the cyl itself.
