hello I have a 1983 evinrude 7.5. The water intake screen in the lower unit is busted and screens are gone. Is there a fix out there for this? part # 0396200 is like 80$?!! Didn't know if someone had tried to make their own screen and replaced theirs?

buy the screen, install and go boating. in the grand scheme of owning a boat, $80 is cheap

Well in the grand scheme of things I guess you’re right. I was just asking if someone had a fix. The replacement part is actually like screen door material with two plugs to hold it in place.. Thanks

could always pick up some silver solder and stainless mesh and make a drop-in screen basket.

That’s basically what it is. The original part is a hard plastic, it’s NLA.. Thanks. I appreciate it.

Check around. They are out there on buying sites still if you can't find them thru regular channels.

Thx. I put in the old part number which has been replaced by the one I listed earlier. Looked on E-bay and all they had were the screen and two plugs for 60$. Kinda expensive for screen? Lol.

hey Bosunsmate I think I'm gonna try something like that. I have a picture of what the replacement part looks like. Just gonna try to copy that. Hell, i have the old plastic piece that came out of it. Just might epoxy some screen on there. Can't hurt...thx

I'm confused? #396200 is available as far as I can tell. Yes it is ridiculously priced, but now it is a stainless steel, screen with plugs. SCO has the kit on eBay for $22 & free shipping I think. I like to support this site since they are nice enough to host us. They don't set the prices, BRP does. Iboats is just trying to stay in business so they can keep this site going. Off my soap box!

The original part is a solid plastic plug with screen holes molded into it The new number is the screen kit .I definitely didn't see it on e-bay for 22$? last i checked it was 59.99. And yes this site is AWESOME!!! Alot of great help and knowledge on this forum... Thx Rustywrench. SCO? havent heard of them
