water intake problem on 1969 johnson 55 hp.

Hi, just bought this motor and it is in decent condition. Before i take it out on the lake though i need some advice on how to fix a problem at the lower unit's water intake ports. It appears that two of the intake screens have corroded through, and in turn broken out. I don't want any large pieces of debris getting sucked up and detroying my motor.<br />Does anyone know what i need to do to replace or fix this. The manual I have doesn't have any info on this.<br />Thanks! :confused:

Since you will be changing the water pump anyway, it's a snap. Once you have the pump off you can look down the intake passage and see the plastic intake screen. Just pull what's left out and slip in a new one. <br /><br />Good luck!
