I just had my engine and outdrive serviced and new bellows installed. Have taken the boat out twice since then and now notice that a lot of water has gotten into the tilt/trim oil. Replaced the fluid today and will take it out this weekend but suspect more of the same. I called the dealer and they claim that nothing they do when removing the outdrive could have caused a leak to happen in the tilt/trim. Anyone know if this is true? Also, any pointers of where to look for my problem before I take it back in to have the rams pressure tested and all?

The engine is a 1996 5.7L Merc with Alpha 1 outdrive. Thanks for any help.

Only thing I can think of is water getting into one of the hydraulic cylinders or hoses...but I can't imagine that happening if you aren't also leaking out hydraulic fluid. What does the fluid look like...what makes you suspect there's water in it?

Sorry I couldn't be of any help...

Walt

Re: Water in Tilt/Trim Oil

I haven't seen any drips or notice of fluid leaking out any hoses but there is fluid coming out of the vented cap of the reservoir. It's all over the bilge. The fluid that is in the reservoir now is a light tan color and just looks like it is oil swirled with water. Thanks again for any help!

Just hoping someone here might have some insight into this since I'm sill in line for my marine mechanic to take a look at this and missing my time on the water!

May be a leaking trim ram or possibly the hyd lines are not snugged up where they connect to the rams........just a guess, but check to see if they're tight.
