I have a 2001 Sea Ray 182 with the 4.3l Vortech. The
boat only has 116 hours on it. The motor started
smoking. We shut it down right away. The temp only
hit 170. I found oil was being shot out of the
breather hoses on top of the valve cover. I found
the oil is milky and it looks like the oil and water
mixed. The crankcase is full of the milky sludgy oil. This sounds like headgasket to me but i don't know a lot about marine engines. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thank you.

Sounds like a head gasket to mee too, got my head on the garage floor now too! If you want to be more certain, run a compression test. It will help you know for sure.

I know that it is common for engines that run hot regardless of how many hours are on it. ESPECIALLY FOR SALT WATER USED ENGINES.... With my experience I advise to check for chunks of rust in manifolds and for kinks in raw water hoses and even pull lower unit and replace the impeller... but you might want to get ready for a set of heads if not a long block too... ouch! IT HURTS....been there and done that... TWICE!

I am not sure it overheated though. The temp gauge only hit 170. Is that considered overheating???
