1988 Alpha 1, I'm getting a milkshake in the trim fluid. What's the best way to check? I have read the ram rebuild process, it looks like a job I can handle, but I want to make sure I know where the water is coming in first.

unless your boat is getting swamped only 2 ways water can get into trim fluid either thru the ram seals (very easy rebuild job) or thru the lines and fittings on the ram bodies.

No swamp thing just a shake, doesn't even grow, it's just milky. The manual does not show any diag process. My boat isn't in the water this week. I'll have to get my daughter to operate the trim while i watch it for drips and listen for sucking sounds. Maybe I'll get lucky and find the leak. Otherwise it's the thing I hate - shotgun approach - redo everything in the area.

are you sure its water? when using standard 10 w 40 oil, it will foam up and appear milky.

When it sits for awhile, does it look ok?

i would just replace the seals in the ram drives and clean out the rams.believe me its a real easy job and the seal kit is like 20.00. When removing the lines from the ram bodies check the threads in the body and on the fitting.
