Hi everyone..I have a 2011 fourwinns 180 3l. I brought it in for service today and they called me said there is water in the oil. He asked me if I sunk the boat? Never have, treated her like gold. The service tech needs to fine out how it happen so it is covered by waranty. How in the world could this happen? I only have 50 hours on it, gave it a full 20 hour service. Any suggestions on how I can prove it was not my fault? Any body know how water could get into the engine without sinking it? Thanks in advance

Did you ever get a lot of water in the bilge? rain water, forget the plug? ect. That will do it. other than that this would be a engine, manifold or cooler problem.

A new motor like that, c'mon...somebody's fishin for warranty work? Maybe it's on the up and up but even if the bilge was flooded water shouldn't get into the crankcase unless the motor was totally submerged.

It is supprising how little of water in the bilge is needed to get into the rear seal durring acceleration. Some seals just hold in oil. ( single lip)

That is what I thought. I would need over 1 foot of water in the motor area to create this problem. Yes I got caught in the rain, but crap the pump worked and there was no water build up. I just dont want to pay for damages they are saying I did, and not knowing how I did it is even harder.

I would give it a 2 nd chance. Just check the oil several times. Dont go far. It might look a little funny till you dry it out.

The boat is currently in the shop. They are going to test compression, flush and refill with oil and see if they can find out the cause and if I pay for it or warranty.

relax. I do not think you will be out anything. Does it have an auto float switch on the pump?

A 2011 motor already needing taken apart is just plain crazy, so now the bolts are all streched are they replacing them too, what about the break in you say there's only 50hrs on it, I would want the motor replaced not "fixed" You paid for a new boat not to have to get it fixed already.

The Pump is automatic as long as the battery is charged. I agree, I dont want this engine torn apart and fixed. This was the reason I'm asking you guys. At least I will have an idea what to say to the service tech's if they are to blame my actions, and if it is fixed It wont happen again if I know the reason.

If there are no cracks or gaskets blown...where does the water need to enter to actual mix with the oil?

no word yet from service tech...still confused on how water gets into the motor, I mean it is a boat dont they manufacture these things to withstand water somewhat.
