Water in oil

Got a 89 Arriva 2450 with 7.4/B1. Started the engine to warm the oil (to change it). When I siphoned it out, it was tan in color and there was a small amount of water that came out first.

Oil was fine last year. Never had this problem before.

Before I started the engine for the first time this year (about 2 weeks ago), I had to remove the power steering/engine oil cooler. The drain plug had broken off in the boss when winterizing last year(plug was hollow so the water did drain out). When removing one of the engine oil lines, the fitting and boss buckled the outside of the cooler ever so slightly. After romoval, I fixed the plug and reinstalled the cooler being careful not to damage anything.

Checked the oil and it looked good. Started the boat and leak checked the lines and shut'er down. No leaks. Did not recheck the oil until after I ran it today.

Here are my question:

If I did crack an internal oil line in the cooler would water get in the oil, or is the oil pressure enough to leak oil into the water?

Port side manifold and riser has been replaced. Starboard side riser has been replaced (last year) but the manifold has not. To me this would be the second most obvious place to look.

Any help appreciated.

Scott

Sounds like you've got the Right two Places to be Looking....

Re: Water in oil

Just ordered new manifold. The cooler turned out ok.

Wanted to get the manifold pressure checked but nobody around here has the proper tooling. The manifold I'm replacing is an original, 14 yrs old. Didn't see anything obvious in the old one, but better safe than sorry.

I read another post that said if the bow is pointed down when running the motor (which it was)water can run back into the exhaust getting water into the engine. Hopefully the new manifold or positioning the boat properly will correct the situation.
