I have read numerous posts about water in the oil. I have a couple more questions that I am not sure about. I have a 1989 OMC 5.7, Thru Hull Exhaust, 4bbl Quadrajet.

I believe I have water in my oil due to the fact that there is a milky brown substnce under my valve covers. The big mystery is that there is no evedence of it in the oil pan at all. I have changed the oil and it came right back after a couple hours of running. Again though it was not in the oil pan, just under the valve covers. I also have one spatk plug on each side that is a little rusty. When you are looking at the engine from the front side, it is the rear one on the right hand side. Engine runs great, doesn't miss a beat. When I bought the engine the previous owner only used it about ten hours in the one year he owned it. I have been told by several mechanics that it is most likely just condensation in the oil due to lack of use. Also the heads were re-done about 15 hours before I bought the boat. ANy help would be appreciated.

Re: water in oil

make sure you have a thermostat in it, 140 degree.

Re: water in oil

i did notice that when I run it on the hose after ten minutes it doesn't feel warm at all. I can still grab the manifolds and they are not hot, just a little bit warm. So do you think that if the thermostat is bad it could cause this? What about the spark plug?

Sounds like a possible water leak on the exhaust side of the motor....
manifolds,+ or risers...
Their just starting to leak....
running on the hose will Never build enough heat to get things "Warmed Up"....
the rust on the plug is on the "Hot" end isn't it?? That's where the water is laying... in the lowest cyl....
