89 omc 2.3L with (salt)water in the oil. The boat ran great the last time it was out...when i made it back home to flush the engine, it wouldnt crank(locked up). I drained the oil and replaced with new oil. Everyone here says manifolds and risers, so i pulled them off and they visually look fine. should i now check the headgasket? Even if I replace manifolds, risers, and head gasket...what are the odds that the engine ceasing will not cause a piston to break or need new rings or cause further damage???? Should I repair this problem or start looking for a new engine to mount to the cobra drive??? (if the latter, what will fit??)
Thanks in advance for the guidance and help!!!

dfishin1, did you get a new engine or rebuild the old? If you have new riser and manifold you should be ok?

Re: water in oil...engine ceased

I havent done either yet, just pulled the manifold and riser off and dont want to put a lot of time and $$$ into it if i am going to need to do a total overhaul of the engine. I was thinking if I need to rebuild the current engine that I might look for a new engine instead. I'm just looking for feedback as to whether the replacement of manifolds and risers will be enough, or if I should expect more problems from the motor having locked up???? thanks for the reply!

Dfishing
I think you need to find problem with your engine first. Could be a $5 head gasket.
To start with pull all the plugs and see if engine turns over. Note which cylinders have water in them. If it saltwater need to do this yesterday or asap. After you get water out squirt a little oil in each cylinder and see if it will start. Let it run a minute and shut down. Check oil for water again. Do a compression check on all cylinders.

Need to find sourse of water.
How long since manifold and riser replaced? I feel this is number one sourse.
Could the engine have froze up and cracked the Block?
Could also be bad head gasket and cheap to fix if you get the water out asap.
